BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team exploded for a season-high tying 94 points as it knocked off first-place Marietta College, 94-71, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets won their sixth straight game and improved to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the OAC. With the loss, the Pioneers lost their first conference game and fell to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the OAC.
BW had three players score in double figures, led by senior forward Chris Ameen (Broadview Heights/Walsh Jesuit) with a season-high 18 points. Ameen went 8-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point land and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior All-OAC forward Kyle Payne (Brunswick) added 17 points and junior All-OAC guard Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/Holy Name) contributed 15. Senior Academic All-OAC guard Ben Umbel (Poland/Seminary) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and had five assists, two blocked shots and a pair of steals. Marietta was led by senior forward Jason Humphrey with 16 points.
The Yellow Jackets gained a 2-0 leads even before the opening tip due to an administrative technical fall against the Pioneers for dunking prior to the game and during warm ups. Krakowiak hit both free throws from the charity stripe. After a missed layup by Marietta to start the game, BW added to its lead at 4-0 when junior forward Tyler Ferrell (Brunswick) hit a jumper at 19:34.
