BW Throttles Cross-Town Rival John Carroll for Seventh Straight Win.

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team scored a season-high 106 points as it defeated Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University, 106-75, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.  

The 106 points was the most points scored by BW since November 17, 2006 when the Yellow Jackets defeated Curry (Mass.) College by a final score of 110-70 in the first game of the Alvernia (Pa.) University Tournament.
 
With the victory, BW won its seventh straight game, improved to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the OAC . With the loss, John Carroll dropped to 6-7 overall and3-4 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series, 58-52, and have won the last two meetings.
 
Sophomore point guard Jaron Crowe (Mentor) scored a game and career-high 19 points to lead five BW players in double figures.  Crowe was 7-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-7 from three-point land while dishing out five assists.  Senior forward Chris Ameen (Broadview Heights/Walsh Jesuit) scored 15 points, junior guard Grant Fairhurst (Ashland) tallied 14, junior All-OAC forward Kyle Payne (Brunswick) recorded 13  and junior forward Tyler Ferrell (Brunswick) added 10 points and grabbed a game-high tying five rebounds. 

Senior forward Kyle Hubbard led three John Carroll players in double figures with 18 points.  Freshman guard Danny Wallack added 13, sophomore forward Regan Sweeney contributed 12 an senior forward Kenny Janz scored nine points and grabbed a game-high tying five rebounds.

The Blue Streaks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on a jumper from Janz and a layup from Hubbard at the 19:06 mark.   The Yellow Jackets got their first points of the game from Payne when he scored on a layup at 18:41.
BW would go on a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 9-8 when junior All-OAC guard Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/Holy Name) would bury a three-pointer with 16:17 remaining.  The two teams would exchange baskets before the Yellow Jackets went on another 5-0 run to take a 16-12 lead on a layup by Ameen at 13:18.
John Carroll would cut the lead down to 22-19 on a pair of free throws by Janz with 11:26 to play.  BW would respond once again with a 5-0 run to push the lead up to 27-19 on a jumper in the pain from junior forward Aaron Selmek (Delaware/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) and a triple from junior forward Skyler Simpson (Centerburg) at 10:23.
The Blue Streaks responded with a 7-3 run to cut the lead down to 30-26 on a jumper from guard Ryan Angers at 8:05.   The Yellow Jackets quickly responded with a 7-0 run to take a 37-26 advantage on a triple from Crowe with 6:54 to play.  BW would outscore John Carroll 12-11 over the remainder of the half and led 49-37 at the intermission.
The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on a 12-2 run and would not look back.  BW extended its lead to as many as 33 points on two occasions with the last coming at 106-73 when freshman forward Zach Warner (Clyde) hit his second of three free throws with 32 second left.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Saturday, Jan. 12 when they travel to New Concord, Ohio to face Muskingum University in the second game of a women's and men's OAC doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. The women tipoff at 2:00 p.m.
