BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated La Roche (Pa.) College by a score of 11-8 in a non-conference game on Fisher Field.
BW (12-6) scored 11 runs on 11 hits as it scored one run in the second and third innings, three in the fifth, the Yellow Jackets took the lead with a four run seventh inning and added two insurance runs in the eighth. La Roche (10-6) scored two runs in the first inning, one in the fourth and sixth innings, two in the seventh and two in the ninth with the tying run at the plate with two outs and runners on first and third.
Offensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by junior third baseman Spencer Badia (Bellaire) and freshman centerfielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) as they each finished the day two-for-five and tallied three RBI (runs batted in). In addition, senior right fielder Alex Marcum (Granville), senior All-OAC designated hitter Cole Nieto (Brunswick/St. Ignatius) and sophomore left fielder Reese Albright (North Royalton) also recorded two hits each. Marcum went two-for-five with a double and a RBI, Nieto went two-for-four with a double and Albright went two-for-three with two RBI.
On the mound, senior All-OAC starter Logan Heffernan (Lebanon) pitched six strong innings as he only allowed four hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts. Freshman Spencer Aukerman (Medina) earned his first career victory as he pitched one inning of relief and did not surrender an earned run. Freshman Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) pitched a scoreless eighth and allowed one run to score in the top of the ninth before being replaced by sophomore Danny Cody (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights). Cody surrendered three hits and a run, but got the strikeout with the tying run at the plate and runners at the corners.
BW is back in action when it travels to Westerville for an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Otterbein University on Fishbaugh Field. Game one starts at 1 p.m. and game two is slated for 4 p.m.
