Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game at La Roche (Pa.)

LA ROCHE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team was defeated  by La Roche (Pa.) College by a score of 11-3 in a non-conference game on the La Roche baseball field.

BW (10-5) scored two runs in the second when senior first baseman Kevin Hagen (Brecksville/St. Ignatius) hit a two-run homer and junior third baseman Spencer Badia (Bellaire) hit a solo homer in the seventh.  La Roche (8-4) scored two runs in each of the first four innings and added three insurance runs in the seventh.

At the plate the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on seven hits and were led by Hagen as he went two-for-four with a two-run homerun. In addition to Hagen, Badia went one-for-four with a one run homerun.

Defensively, senior Academic All-OAC pitcher Mitch Kern (Parma/Normandy) was credited with the loss and pitched one inning and allowed three runs. Sophomore Jack Raines (Uniontown/Akron Archbishop Hoban) and freshman Ian Hennessey (Strongsville) each pitched one inning. Raines surrendered one run in the second and Hennessey allowed two in the third. Sophomore Dominic Francis (Medina/Brunswick) pitched three and one-third innings and allowed five runs. Freshman pitchers Spencer Berg (New Albany) and Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) finished off the final one and two-thirds innings and held the Red Hawks scoreless.

BW will be back in action on Saturday, March 25 when it hosts cross-town rival John Carroll University for an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Fisher Field. Game one starts at 1 p.m. and game two is slated for 4 p.m.
