Baseball Defeats Juniata (Pa.) in Non-Conference Action

NEW MARKET, Va. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Juniata (Pa.) College by a score of 14-1 in a non-conference game inside Rebel Stadium.

BW (3-0) scored one run in the second, five in the fourth inning off of two homeruns, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, three in the seventh, one run in both the eighth and ninth innings. Juniata (0-3) scored its only run in the third inning.    

At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by senior shortstop Steve Montgomery (Canton/Central Catholic) as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in (RBI). In addition, junior catcher Trent Kaltenbach (Plain City / Jonathan Alder) went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and senior centerfielder Cole Nieto (Brunwick/St. Ignatius) went 2-for-5 with a homerun, double and three RBI's.

On the mound, junior All-Mideast Region pitcher Evan Lovick (Mentor) picked up the win with three strong innings and three strikeouts. Sophomore pitcher Brandon Lekan (Strongsville) pitched four innings of relief and freshman Spencer Berg (New Albany) pitched the final two innings with four strikeouts.

BW is back in action on Sunday February 26 when it is back in New Market, Virginia for a non-conference doubleheader against Pitt-Bradford in Rebel Stadium. Game one starts at 12 p.m. and game two is slated for 3 p.m.
