Baseball Drops a Pair of OAC Games at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio– The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games against Heidelberg University at Peaceful Valley.

Heidelberg (15-10, 5-3 OAC) defeated BW (14-12, 3-7 OAC) by a score of 4-0 in game one and took game two by a score of 5-2.

In game one, Heidelberg scored one run in the second inning, sophomore first baseman Parker Fronk hit a two-run homer in the third and the Student Princes closed out the scoring with one run in the fourth. The Yellow Jackets recorded five hits but were held scoreless.

At the plate, senior All-OAC designated hitter Cole Nieto (Brunswick/St. Ignatius), junior centerfielder Chase Knodle (Poland/Seminary), junior third baseman Spencer Badia (Bellaire), junior right fielder Alex Marcum (Granville) and sophomore left fielder Reese Albright (North Roaylton) each recorded hits for BW.

Freshman pitcher Spencer Aukerman (Medina) got the start and was handed the loss as he pitched five innings and surrendered six hits and four runs. Freshman Max Adams (Massillon/Washington) came in out of the pen as he held Heidelberg scoreless and only allowed one hit in three innings of work.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored one run in both the first and one in the fourth. Heidelberg scored two runs in the third inning, took the lead for good in the fifth with two runs and tacked on one insurance run in the eighth.

Offensively, BW was led by Marcum as he went two-for-three with one run batted in. In addition, freshman second baseman Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) went two-for-four for the Yellow Jackets.

Defensively, Adams got the start and made it through three innings but not before allowing two hits and two runs. Freshman Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) came out of the bullpen and recorded the loss. Hubert pitched three innings, struck out three batters of work and surrendered two runs on two hits. Sophomore Danny Cody (Brecksville / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) closed out the game for BW as he earned four strikeouts, gave up two hits and one run in three innings of work.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, April 14 when they travel to Wilmington for an OAC doubleheader on Tewksbury-Delaney Field. Game one starts at 1 p.m. and game two is slated for 4 p.m.
