Women’s Basketball Drops OAC Contest Against Wilmington on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team closed out the home portion of its regular season schedule with a 55-53 Ohio Athletic Conference loss against Wilmington College on Seniors' and Parents Day in the Ursprung Gymnasium.

BW (14-9, 10-6 OAC) was led by junior forward Sydney Clark (Parma / Lake Ridge Academy) with a team-high 12 points.

Wilmington (8-15, 5-11 OAC) had two players score in double digits led by freshman guard Mackenzie Campbell witha game-high 18 points.  Junior forward Mary Moyer added 13 points.

In the first quarter, Wilmington jumped out to an early 5-4 lead, but junior guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) made the traditional three point play at the 7:29 mark to give the BW a 7-5 lead. The Quakers knotted the game at 10-10 when Brittany Jefferson made a layup with 3:22 left in the first. Wilmington finished the quarter on a 9-1 run to take a 19-11 lead going into the second quarter.

BW went on a 10-4 run to start the second quarter and cut the Quakers lead to 23-21 when  Clark hit a three-pointer at the 5:11 mark. The Yellow Jackets took the lead when senior guard Ally Dehart (Beaver, Pa.) hit a free throw with 2:11 left in the first half to make the score 25-24. Wilmington outscored BW 4-2 in the last two minutes, giving the Quakers a 28-27 lead at halftime.

BW took a 35-34 when senior guard Erin Allen (Girard, Pa) connected from beyond the arc at the 4:52 mark. The Yellow Jackets 13-12 run came to an end at the end of the third quarter and BW held a 41-39 lead.  

The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 49-42 when Allen hit another three-pointer at the 6:59 mark. Wilmington went on a 11-4 run and tied the game up with 1:05 left in regulation when junior guard Brittaney Jefferson scored the traditional three-point play to make the score 53-53. Moyer made a layup with six seconds left to give the Quakers the victory.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, February 17 when they travel to Ada for an OAC game against OAC leader and No. 11-nationally ranked Ohio Northern University at 7:30 p.m.  BW closes out the regular season on Saturday, February 20 when they travel to Bexley for an OAC game against No. 24-ranked Capital University in the Capital Center at 3 p.m.
