Colombo’s Career Night Leads Women’s Basketball to Third Place Finish at Anderson (Ind.) Tip-Off

ANDERSON, Indiana – Junior point guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) scored a career-high and game-high 18 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team finished in third place at the Anderson (Ind.) University Tip-Off Tournament with a 66-42 victory against host Anderson in the consolation game.

In addition to Colombo for BW (2-1), senior guard Janaya Feaster (Akron/ Archbishop Hoban) scored 10 points.  Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard/ forward Sydney Clark (Parma/ Lake Ridge Academy), who was named to the all-tournament team, grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and added seven points and a career-high tying three steals. She was later named to the all-tournament team.

Anderson (0-3) was led by Ashley O'Malley's 12 points.

In the first quarter, BW jumped out to an early 10-2 lead on a layup by freshman forward Rachel Womeldorf (Lewis Center / Olentangy) at the 6:38 mark. The Ravens outscored BW 7-6 over the remainder of the stanza but trailed, 16-9.

In the second period, the Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 14 points at 30-16 on a three-pointer by Colombo at 3:23.  BW push its lead to a first-half high 20 points on a trey by sophomore guard Katie Smith (Fairview Park/Fairview) as time expired in the half to lead 38-18 at the intermission.

Anderson opened the third quarter on a 13-6 run to cut the lead down to 44-31 on when Blayr Poston spilt a pair of free throws at the 3:22 mark.  The Yellow Jackets outscored the Ravens 5-4 the reminder of the period to lead 49-35 after three quarters.

In the fourth stanza, Anderson could come only close as 13 points on two occasions with the last coming at 53-40 on jumper by Gabriella Parker at 7:54.   BW pushed its lead to as many as 24 points at 66-42 when freshman guard MacKenzi Matthews (North Royalton) spilt a pair of free throws with one second remaining.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, November 24 when they travel to nearby Oberlin for a non-conference game against Oberlin College in the Philips Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
