Women’s Basketball Outlasts Heidelberg in OAC Action

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team outlasted Heidelberg University for a 56-52 Ohio Athletic Conference victory in the Seiberling Gymnasium.

BW (9-5, 5-2 OAC), who won its 28th straight game against Heidelberg (6-8, 4-3 OAC), had two players score in double figures as senior forward Alissa Munro (Mansfield/Lexington) and senior guard Janaya Feaster (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) each scored 11 points. 
 

The Student Princes had one player score in double digits led by sophomore forward Shiloh Murphy with a game-high 15 points.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start the opening quarter on a three-pointer by Munro at the 6:29 mark.  Heidelberg responded with an 8-3 run of its own to tie the game at 11-11 on a jumper by senior Academic All-OAC guard Allie Hawkins at 3:21.   BW scored the final three points of the quarter and led 14-11 at the intermission after a triple by freshman guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davison) at the 2:30 mark.
 

The Yellow Jackets opened the second stanza with a 7-4 run to extend their lead to 21-15 when Munro buried her second three-pointer at the 5:33 mark.  The Student Princes answered with a 5-2 run down the stretch but BW junior point guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) scored on a layup with two seconds to lead 23-20 at the intermission.

The Yellow Jackets opened the third quarter on a 6-2 run to push their lead to 29-22 on a three-pointer by senior Academic All-OAC guard Allyson Helleis (Rocky River) at the 7:55 mark.   Heidelberg responded with a 9-0 run to take its first lead of the game at 31-29 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jessica Barnes at 2:48.  Both teams would add a bucket down the stretch with the Student Princes leading 33-31 after three periods of play.
 

BW opened the final quarter on a 6-4 run to tie the game at 37-37 on a layup by Fecht at the 6:31 mark.  The Student Princes answered right back with a 5-0 run to take a 42-37 lead on a three-pointer and a layup by Murphy with the last coming at 4:17.  The Yellow Jackets stormed back with an 11-1 run to regain the lead at 48-43 on a three-pointer by Feaster at the 1:39 mark.   Heidelberg closed the game on a 9-8 run but BW came away with the 56-52 victory.
