Baldwin Wallace Adds Hartzler to Women’s Basketball Staff

BEREA, Ohio  -- Baldwin Wallace University veteran Head Women's Basketball Coach Cheri Harrer has announced the hiring of Cody Hartzler as an assistant coach. He will assist Harrer with game management, practice, recruiting, scouting and travel.

Hartzler comes to BW after spending the past the two years as an assistant men's basketball coach at Washington and Jefferson (Pa.) College.  While with the Presidents, he served as the recruiting coordinator, fundraising director, summer camp administrator and spring sports event manager.

"We are extremely excited to have a caliber coach in Cody Hartzler join our program," said Harrer. "He has an incredible work ethic and is an outstanding young man. We feel that Cody will help take our program to the next level."

Prior to Washington & Jefferson, Hartzler served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Bluffton University for two seasons. While at Bluffton he served as the, head junior varsity coach, recruiting coordinator, summer shootout administrator and the team's academics affairs supervisor.

"I am truly humbled to join the BW family as the next women's assistant basketball coach," said Hartzler.  "Having the opportunity to contribute for a nationally ranked, private, liberal arts university like BW, compete in the tradition-laden Ohio Athletic Conference and serve one of the sports' most influential leaders in Coach Harrer are, separately, incredible honors.  When you compile those factors, you're looking at a once in lifetime opportunity.  I could not be more excited to get started."

Before Bluffton, Hartzler served as the assistant men's basketball coach for two seasons and the Head Men's Tennis Coach for one season at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.  During his tenure, he aided in recruiting, practice implementation, individual skill development and opponent preparation and served as a camp counselor.

Hartzler earned a bachelor's degree from Kutztown (Pa.) University in leisure and sports studies and a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in healthcare management from Bluffton.

As a student-athlete at Kutztown, he was a Division II All-American in the high jump, a four-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference track and field selection, a two-year team captain and Dean's List student.
