BEREA, Ohio - Get to know junior goalkeeper Brian Haviland (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island). This season, Haviland appeared in the second half of the Yellow Jackets game against Bluffton and recorded the team's only save.

How did you get started in your soccer career?

I began my career at the age of three when my father was put in charge of the challenger soccer program for children in my hometown.

If you could have dinner with one professional athlete (living or dead), who would it be and why?

I would have dinner with Tim Howard because he is my favorite goalkeeper and I would like to know how he prepares himself for each game, what his routine is, what kind of training he does as well as how he mentally prepares himself.

If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would take a trip to Germany for a few reasons. My Nana is originally from Germany and I have always wanted to learn their culture and language. I would also love to be able to experience soccer there and see what it's like at the stadiums.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

The best piece of advice I ever received as an athlete was to focus on one ball at a time. It helps you focus on one play at a time, one movement, instead of focusing too much on the outcome or the ball you just missed. As normal, non-athletic advice, the best advice I received was to always work hard in everything that you're doing. It has taken me very far in life and I plan to continue to work hard.

If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

I would choose the power of super speed as it would not only help me in my sport but would also allow me to travel wherever I would like in the world.
