BEREA, Ohio – In the Ohio Athletic Conference opener, the Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team fell to Marietta College 5-2.

Picking up where he left off against Grove City (Pa.), sophomore midfielder Rafael Davalos (Ketting/Alter) scored his second goal of the season to give the Yellow Jackets (4-6-1, 1-0 OAC) a 1-0 lead. Sophomore midfielder Timmy Jonas (Fairview Park/St. Edward) took a corner kick in the 18th minute and sent the ball into Davalos who headed the ball into the goal.

In the 27th minute, freshman midfielder Bryce Posner (Aurora) sent a ball up the field to sophomore All-OAC forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) who ran up the right side of the field and sent the ball past the goalie into the left corner of the net for his 10th goal of the season.

The BW lead was cut in half with a goal by sophomore midfielder Luke Maher in the 33rd minute but the Yellow Jackets still maintained a 2-1 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

Marietta (7-2-1, 1-0 OAC) exploded for three goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, quickly flipping the momentum into the Pioneers' favor and forcing the Yellow Jackets to play defense for most of the half. Junior midfielder Tom Sloan made the final score 5-2 with a goal in the 86th minute.

The Pioneers dominated possession for most of the second half and held the overall advantage in shots taken (12-9) and shots on goal (6-4).

BW will look to bounce back and earn its first conference win on the road when it travels to Alliance to take on the University of Mount Union on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
