Ten Men's Soccer Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-OAC Honors

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Ten Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

In order to be selected to the Academic All-OAC team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Sophomore forward Cole McDaniel (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem), sophomore forward Cannon Dees (Berea/Berea-Midpark), sophomore midfielder Rafael Davalos (Kettering/Alter), junior defender Michael Somody (North Canton/Hoover), junior goalkeeper Brian Haviland (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island), junior midfielder Joey Rini (Vermillion), junior midfielder Jeremy Foust (Strongsville), sophomore midfielder Joey Geither (Parma/Normandy), sophomore two-time All-OAC forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) and sophomore midfielder Ben Feuer (Youngstown/Canfield) make up 10 of the 40 fall student-athletes who were recognized.

McDaniel, who earns his first Academic All-OAC honor, is a broadcasting and mass communication major who carries a 3.50 GPA. For his career, McDaniel has appeared in 22 games with one goal and one assist for three points.

Dees, who garners his first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a sport management major who carries a 3.55 GPA. He is a Dean's List student and a student assistant in the athletic communications office. For his career, Dees has appeared in 20 games with two assists for two points.

Davalos, who earns his first Academic All-OAC honor, is an exercise science major who carries a 3.60 GPA. For his career, Davalos has appeared in 37 games with three goals and two assists for eight points.

Somody, who garners his Academic All-OAC accolade, is an accounting major who carries a 3.60 GPA. For his career, Somody has appeared in 15 games.

Haviland, who earns his second-straight Academic All-OAC honor, is a physics major who carries a 3.62 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, the philanthropy chairman for Phi Kappa Tau, a Center for Innovation and Growth Fellow and the recruitment chairman for the Dance Marathon. For his career, Haviland has appeared in four games and recorded 14 saves.

Rini, who garners his second-straight Academic All-OAC accolade, is a film studies major who carries a 3.72 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Honors Club. For his career, Rini has appeared in 21 games with one goal for two points.

Foust, who earns his second-straight Academic All-OAC honor, is a mathematics and psychology double major who carries a 3.84 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Psychology Club, an Honors Program student and a STEM scholar. For his career, Foust has appeared in 56 games with one assist for one point.

Geither, who garners his first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a digital media and design major who carries a 3.88 GPA. A Dean's List student, Geither has appeared in 30 games over his career with three goals and five assists for 11 points.

Ruple, who earns his first Academic All-OAC honor, is an accounting major who carries a 3.88 GPA. He is a two-time All-OAC selection, the reigning OAC Forward of the Year and a Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 honoree. The Dean's List student set single-season school records this season with 19 goals and 45 points. For his career, Ruple has appeared in 38 games with 27 goals and 13 assists for 67 points.

Feuer, who garners his first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a mathematics and economics double major who carries a 3.89 GPA. He is a Dean's List student and a member of the Honors program. For his career, Feuer has appeared in 10 games.
