Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Mount Union, Sunday’s Games Postponed until Monday

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to the University of Mount Union on Rafeld-Rogers Field.

Mount Union (26-6, 24-6 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 5-2 and took the second game by a final score of 5-1.

BW (18-14-1, 17-11-1 OAC) scored two runs on seven hits as it plated one run in the seventh and one in the eight.  The Purple Raiders scored five runs on six hits as it scored one run in the first and four in the seventh.

The Yellow Jackets were led at the plate by senior All-OAC shortstop Alex Ludwick as he went 3-for-4.

On the mound senior Academic All-OAC right hander Scott Kirchhoff (Toledo/Sylvania Northview) took the loss as he allowed three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks in 6.1 innings pitched.  Sophomore righty Matt Sabin (Mentor) pitched two-thirds of an inning and allowed two runs on two hits with one walk.  Freshman right hander Anthony Monaco III (Struthers) pitched the final inning  and did not allow a run or hit with two strikeouts and one walk.

In game two, BW scored one run on five hits at it plated one run in the seventh inning.  Mount Union scored five runs on 10 hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the first and four in the fourth.

The Yellow Jackets got a base hit from five players highlighted by the homerun from outfielder Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills /Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy).

On the mound, freshman righty Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week, took the loss as he allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts and one walk.  Freshman right hander Kyle Maruna (Medina) pitched the final three innings and did not allow a run or hit with five strikeouts and one walk.

BW is back in action on Monday, May 10 when it hosts its rescheduled OAC doubleheader against Mount Union on Fisher Field at 1 p.m.
