Baseball Falls to No. 5 Marietta, Second Game Canceled

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team battled rain, hail and an hour lightning delay as it fell to No. 5 nationally-ranked Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Fisher Field

Marietta (18-3, 16-2 OAC) earned the victory in the four hour and two-minute game one by a final score of 7-5, which featured an hour lightning delay in the sixth inning.   Game two of the doubleheader was canceled due to time constraints.

BW (13-9-1, 12-6-1 OAC) scored five runs on 11 hits as it plated two runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third.   The Pioneers scored seven runs on 10 hits as they pushed four runs across the plate in the third and three in the eighth.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by senior All-OAC shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) as he went 3-for-5 with a runs scored a run batted-in (RBI) and two stolen bases. Senior All-American center fielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) was 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and two walks.  Senior right fielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

On the mound, freshman right hander Brendon Hink (Poland / Neshannock {Pa.}) got the start and no decision as he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk.  Freshman righty Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley) took the loss as he allowed three runs on four hits with six strikeouts.   Freshman right hander Kyle Maruna (Medina) pitched one inning and allowed no runs on one hit with two walks.  Sophomore righty Ethan Boyko (North Royalton) pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and did not allow a run or hit.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 24 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Ohio Northern University at 1 p.m.
