Seven Baseball Players Selected to All-OAC Team

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Seven Baldwin Wallace University baseball players have been selected to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference Team.

Senior shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan), senior center fielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) and sophomore designated hitter Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen) were named to the first-team. Senior second baseman Tony LoParo (Avon/Elyria Catholic), junior first baseman Alexis Castillo (Sunrise, Fla./The Sagemont School) and junior outfielder Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) were selected to the second-team.  Freshman right handed pitcher Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley) was tabbed as honorable mention. 

Ludwick, who garners his second first-team accolade after earning his first in 2019, led the team and was second in the OAC with a career-best in .434 batting average and hits with 76.  He also led the squad and was tied for first in the league with a career-best four triples. Ludwick was tied for the team lead and tied for second in the conference with a career-best eight homeruns. He was second on the squad and fourth in the OAC with career-bests in runs batted-in with 43. Ludwick also tallied a career-best 16 walks to finished tied for second on the team and tied for fifth in the league and had 14 walks to finish third on the team and tied for eighth in the OAC with 14. He also made his pitching debut as he appeared seven times on the mound and had a record of 1-1 with one save and five strikeouts in 10.2 innings. Ludwick was the OAC Hitter of the Week for the first time in his career on March 22. In his career, Ludwick has played in 139 and has a batting average of .360. He has tallied 42 doubles, 16 triples, 12 homeruns, 144 runs scored, 125 runs batted-in, 58 walks and 36 stolen bases.  

Taw, who earn his second first-team accolade after earning his first in 2018, led the team and was sixth in the OAC in stolen bases with 16 and led the squad and was ninth in the league in walks with 21. He was tied for the team lead and tied for second in the conference with eight homeruns. Taw was second on the team and tied for fourth in the conference with 15 doubles. He had a .370 batting average with 61 hits and 32 runs batted-in. For his career, Taw is an All-American and All-Midwest Region selection. He has played in 129 career games and has a batting average of 349. Taw has recorded 160 hits, 113 runs batted-in, 107 runs scored, 56 walks, 47 stolen bases, 40 doubles, 24 home runs and four triples.

Vonderhaar, who garners his first honor, had a breakout season as he tallied career-bests in all offensive categories.  He was fourth on the team with four homeruns and finished tied for fifth in doubles with nine. Vonderhaar  batted .342 with 38 hits, 27 runs scored, 27 runs batted-in, seven walks and three stolen bases. In his career, Vonderhaar has played in 46 games and has a .322 batting average. He has notched 49 hits, 36 runs scored, 34 runs batted-in, 11 walks, nine doubles, five homeruns, five stole bases and one triple.

LoParo, who earns his first accolade, had a breakout season as he posted career-bests in every offensive category. He was third on the team and tied for 10th in the CAC in runs batted-in with 36.  LoParo was tied for second on squad and tied for fifth in the league in stolen bases with 10.  He had a .353 batting average with 55 hits, 15 walks, nine doubles and three homeruns. For his career, LoParo has played in 108 and has .3865 batting average. He has accumulated 90 hits, 61 runs scored, 52 runs batted-in, 34 walks, 15 doubles, 14 stolen bases, three homeruns and two triples.

Castillo, who garners his first honor after transferring from Oberlin College, led the team and was second in the OAC in runs batted-in with 46.  He was second on the squad and third in the league in hits with 64 and was second on the team and 10th in the league in hitting with a .386 batting average. Castillo was tied for second on the squad with 16 walks. He was third on the team and tied for fifth on the conference with six homeruns.  He was fourth on the squad with 13 doubles. 

Wilson, who earns his first accolade, had a stellar season as he tallied career-bests in all offensive categories. He led the team and was second in the OAC with 17 doubles. Wilson was third on the team with a .372 batting average.  He also notched 48 hits, 26 runs scored, nine walks, two homeruns, two stolen bases and one triple.  Wilson made 12 appearances on the mound had posted three wins and three saves with a career-best 50 strikeouts in 43 innings. In his career, Wilson has played in 69 games and has a .335 batting average. He has amassed 63 hits, 43 runs batted-in, 36 runs scored, 22 doubles, 10 walks, three homeruns, three stolen bases and one triple. Wilson has made 23 career appearances on the bump and has won three games with four saves in 63.1 innings. He has struck out 79 career batters.

Seger, who garners his first honor, led the team and was tied for 10th in the OAC with four wins. He finished his rookie campaign with 34 strikeouts and a 3.40 earned run average in 39.2 innings.  Seger was the OAC Pitcher of the Week on May 3. 

BW finished the season with an overall record of 23-16-1 and an OAC mark of 22-12-1.  The Yellow Jackets advanced to the OAC Tournament quarterfinals.
