Baseball Closes Out Season in OAC Tournament Quarterfinals

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team closed out its season as it fell to Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal game by a final score of 7-3 on Fisher Field

Heidelberg (24-15-1) now advances to the semifinals on Thursday, May 20 at 4 p.m. 

BW (23-16-1) scored three runs on nine hits as it plated one run in the first, one in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Student Princes scored seven runs on nine hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the second, two in the seventh and three in the eighth.

The Yellow Jackets were led at the plate by junior right fielder Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) as he went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted-in.  Senior All-OAC shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) was 2-for-6 with a doble, two runs scored and an RBI.

On the mound, freshman right hander Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley) got the start and the no decision as he allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 3.1 innings pitched. Wilson, who moved from right field to the bump, suffered the loss as he allowed five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings.  Ludwick, who moved from shortstop to pitch the ninth inning, did not allow a hit or run with one strikeout.

The OAC Tournament Championship series, which is the best two of out of three, begins on Friday, May 21 on the campus of the highest remaining seed at 1 p.m.  If a game three is necessary, it will be played on Saturday, May 22 at 1 p.m.
