Baseball Sweeps Ohio Northern in OAC Doubleheader

BEREA, Ohio — The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team swept Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Fisher Field.

BW (18-12, 7-7 OAC) won game one by a score of 6-2 and took game two by a final of 6-4.  

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored  six runs on nine hits as they scored one run in the first and second innings, junior third baseman Spencer Badia (Bellaire) hit a three-run homer to five BW the lead for good in the fifth and they score an insurance run in the sixth. Ohio Northern (15-16, 4-8 OAC) scored both of its runs in the fifth.

With the victory, junior All-OAC starting pitcher Evan Lovick (Mentor) improves to 6-1 on year, which is a  single season career-high. Lovick recorded his second complete game of the year as he struck out four batters and only allowed six hits and two runs.

Offensively the Yellow Jackets were led by Badia as he went one-for-four with three RBIs. Junior right fielder Alex Marcum (Granville) and senior first baseman Kevin Hagen (Brecksville/St. Ignatius) each recorded two hits. Marcum went two-for-four win a RBI and Hagen went two-for-three.

In game two, BW scored six runs on nine hits as it scored four runs in the first inning and two in the seventh. Ohio Northern scored three runs in first inning and one in the third.

At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by Badia and sophomore left fielder Reese Albright (North Royalton) as they each recorded two hits each. Badia went two-for-four with a RBI and Albright went two-for-three. In addition, Hagen went one-for-three win a RBI double.

Defensively, freshman Spencer Aukerman (Medina) started and record one out and allowed three runs. Sophomore reliever Jack Raines (Uniontown/Akron Archbishop Hoban) got the final two outs in the first inning and recorded a strikeout. Sophomore Brandon Lekan (Strongsville) pitched the final eight innings, struck out seven Ohio Northern batters and only allowed three hits and one run.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 22 when it travels to Columbus for an OAC doubleheader against Capital University on Clowson Field. Game one starts at 1 p.m. and game two is slated for 4 p.m.
