Seven Baseball Players Earn Academic All-OAC Honors

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio --
 Seven Baldwin Wallace University baseball student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team. 

In order to be selected as Academic All-OAC a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and maintain varsity status.

Senior first baseaman Kevin Hagen (Brecksville/St. Ignatius), senior pitcher Mitch Kern (Parma/Normandy), junior first baseman Spencer Badia (Bellaire), junior first baseman Tyler Lienerth (Grafton/Midview), sophomore left fielder Reese Albright (North Royalton), sophomore outfielder Andy Blough (Wooster/Smithville) and sophomore pitcher Dominic Francis (Medina/Brunswick) each were named to the spring Academic All-OAC team. 

Hagen, who garners his first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a business and finance double major that carries a 3.56 grade point average (GPA). He is a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. Hagen  played started in 27 of 28 games this season, was second on the team with a batting average at .347 with nine doubles, two homers and a career-high 24 runs batted in (RBI). 

Kern, who earned his second Academic All-OAC honor, is a education major that carries a 3.55 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society. This season he made three appearances out of the bull pen and recorded three strikeouts. 

Badia, who garners his second straight Academic All-OAC accolade, is a pre-physical therapy major that carries a 4.00 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies. This season, Badia had a .323 batting average, an on-base percentage of .405 and slugging percentage of .534. Badia was second on the team with six homeruns, hit eight doubles and batted in 27 runs. 

Lienerth, who earns his first Academic All-OAC honor, is a business administration major that carries a 3.67 GPA and is a Dean's List student. He appeared in 15 games with two doubles and two RBIs. 

Albright, who garners his first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a pre-physical therapy major that carries a 3.53 GPA. He is a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. Albright appeared in 37 game this season, batted .293 (34 for 116) and led the team with four triples and 14 stolen bases. 

Blough, who earns his first Academic All-OAC honor, is an international studies and national security double major that carries a 3.75 GPA. He also a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. Blough appeared in 25 games this season batted .200 and batted in one run

Francis, who garners his first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a chemical engineering major that carries a 3.76 GPA. He is also a Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar. Francis made a career-high seven appearances this season, had three strikeouts and earned his first career victory.
