No. 27 Women's Cross Country Places Sixth in Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 27 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team competed in the Greater Louisville Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville (Ky.) in E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

BW competed in the Silver Race and Blue Race, both of which featuring five-kilometer racecourses. The Silver Race was comprised entirely of varsity NCAA Division III schools, whereas the Blue Race was considered an open of institutions ranging across all collegiate divisions.

In the Silver Race, the Yellow Jackets managed to place sixth out of 37 teams, scoring 213 points. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology took home the team title with 90 points.

For the second race this season, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection Kelly Brennan (Akon/Walsh Jesuit) spearheaded BW as its top runner placing 5th in 21:42.2. Reigning sophomore OAC women's cross country runner of the week Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain) followed shortly afterwards, finishing 26th in a career-best 21:46.1. Juniors Madison Kile (North Canton/Hoover) and Hastings Marek (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) were the next Yellow Jackets to cross the finish line, placing 51st and 55th in 22:05.1 and 22:09.7, respectively. Rounding out the top five finishers was junior Molina Otte (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) who came in 67th place in 22:15.6.

In the Blue Race, BW placed 47th out of 62 teams, scoring 1164 points. East Tennessee State finished the race on top of the standings with 104 points. Freshman Hailey Borges (Brunswick) was the top runner for the Yellow Jackets in the Blue Race, placing 207th in a career-best 20:24.0.

BW will return to the racecourse on Saturday, October 19 when it travels to nearby Oberlin to compete in the Inter-Regional Rumble on the Oberlin College Cross Country Course.
