BW Men and Women's Track Teams Each Finished Fourth at All-Ohio Outdoor Meet at OWU

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's track and field teams each finished in fourth place at the annual Division III All-Ohio Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet today (Saturday, April 11, 2009) and hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware. 

The BW men totaled 74 points and placed fourth of 20 teams, while the women had 79.50 points and placed fourth of 18 schools.  BW produced three individual champions.

For the women, sophomore thrower Rachael Marinucci (Brunswick) won the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, nine inches and placed second in the discus throw with a mark of 123'7".  Also in the throws, junior Marina Ortiz (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) was second in the javelin with a mark of 115"1', while seniorTheresa Carona (Canton/Massillon Perry) was third in the discus with a throw of 120"8".  In the running events, the BW women had three All-Ohio performances, including second and third place finishes from juniorD'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) and sophomore Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum) in the 1,500-meter run. Hlavin finished in 4:44.92 with Chinn following in 4:48.64 for the Yellow Jackets.   Leading the way for the sprinters was senior Jordan Hill (Carrollton) who placed third in the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.76

For the men, BW produced individual champions in junior Greg Patrick (Collins/Western Reserve) the shot put and sophomore Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/Watkins Memorial) in the discus throw.  Patrick recorded a winning throw of 50'10", while Phipps' winning mark was 161'5".  Also in the discus, sophomore Matt Kromer (Parma/Senior) was second with a toss of 154'0", while Patrick rounded the BW sweep with a mark of 149'5".  Phipps also earned an additional All-Ohio honor with a second place performance in the hammer throw with his throw of 161'9".  In the long jump, junior decathlete Steve Price (North Olmsted)was third with a leap of 22'1".  In the running events, senior Nate Bowen (Fremont/Ross) recorded a third place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:02.11.

The Yellow Jacket men and women will next compete on Saturday, April 18 when they host the annual Paul "Sparky" Adams Invitational Meet in The George Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio at 11:00 a.m.
