Both BW Men's and Women's Indoor Track Teams Stand In Fourth Place at 2009 OAC Indoor Championships

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team currently stands in fourth place and the women's team also stands in fourth at the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

The Yellow Jacket men have scored 14 points and currently sit in fourth out of 10 teams, while the women have tallied 20 points and sit in fourth place out of 10 teams.

The top three finishers in individual events and the top two teams in relay events are awarded All-OAC honors.

For the men, junior decathlete Steve Price (North Olmsted) placed second in the long jump to garner an All-OAC nod with a jump of 22 feet, 9.25 inches.  In the weight throw exhibition, sophomore Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/ Watkins Memorial) and junior Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) earned All-OAC accolades with first and third place finishes, respectively.  Phipps recorded a 55-foot, 2.25-inch throw and Patrick's throw traveled 50 feet, 5.25 inches.  Junior Jeff Bonezzi (Medina/ Senior), senior Alan Kidon (Chardon), junior Jimmy Eberts (North Canton/ Hoover) and senior Nate Bowen (Fremont/ Ross) teamed for the distance medley and finished third in a time of 10:33.34, just 11.69 seconds of an All-OAC pace.

 

Senior distance runner Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood) won her second consecutive 3,000-meter crown and second consecutive All-OAC honor with a time of 10:42.92.  The women's distance medley relay team, comprised of junior Brittany Giesken (Ottawa/ Ottawa Glandorf), senior Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg), junior D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) and sophomore Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) took first place in 10:36.51.

The Yellow Jacket men and women will resume action on Sat. Mar. 7 for the second day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet in Columbus.  The meet is hosted by Capital University, with events starting at 10:00 a.m.
