Yellow Jacket Track and Field Teams Compete at Toledo Invitational; Phipps Improves Qualifying Mark

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 25th Annual Toledo Invitational hosted by the University of Toledo on Friday, May 1, 2009. The meet was unscored.

On the women's side, freshman Andrea Sanner (Somerset, Pa./ Bishop McCart) had BW's top finish with a seventh-place showing in the javelin throw with a season-best distance of 86'7". Sophomore Rachel Marinucci (Brunswick) placed eighth and broke her season-best in the shot put with a throw of 41'7.75". She also topped her season-best in the hammer throw with an eighth-place toss of 132'8". SophomoreKrysten Kovach (North Royalton/ Parma Padua Franciscan) ran a season-best in the 1,500m run (5:02.41) and freshman Kara Kasper (Amherst/ Steele) set a career-best in the pole vault by nearly a foot with a jump of 15'02".

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, May 8 at the 2009 Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny (Pa.) College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. BW also competes at the North Central (Ill.) College "Last Chance" Meet in Naperville, Illinois on Friday, May 15. The NCAA Division III Championships will be held on May 21-23 at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

Three Yellow Jackets, Patrick, Phipps and junior decathlete Steve Price (North Olmsted) have already qualified for the DIII national meet.
