Price and Kromer Hit Provisional Qualifying Marks at NCC Last Chance Meet

BEREA, OHIO -- Select members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Naperville, Illinois this week (May 12-15) to compete at the North Central College "Last Chance" Meet. Junior Steve Price (North Olmsted) landed an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the decathlon on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 12-13, and sophomore Matt Kromer (Parma/ Senior) hit a provisonal qualifying mark in the discus throw on Thursday, May 14.

Price scored 6,342 points and placed fifth in a highly competitive 13-person field. His point total currently ranks 16th in the nation and puts him on the bubble for the NCAA selection process on Saturday, May 16. Price stop performance was a first-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 22'7.25". He also posted career-bests in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.86), pole vault (13'3.5"), shot put (38'4.75") and 1,500m run (5:19.72).

Kromer placed eighth with a career-best discus throw of 158'7" and will also await word from the NCAA selection committee on Saturday. Sophomore Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/ Watkins Memorial) and juniorGreg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) have already hit qualifying marks in the discus throw this season.

The trio also competed in the hammer throw and Phipps placed first with a toss of 175' and Patrick was third at 160'9".

Sophomore Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) competed in the women's heptathlon and placed fifth out of nine competitors. She placed fifth in the long jump (15'6.25"), 100m hurdles (16.17) and high jump (4'11.75"). 

On Friday, senior sprinter Jordan Hill (Carrollton) placed eighth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.80. She also finished seventh in the 200m dash at 25.91.

The Division III National Championship Meet will be held Thursday-Saturday, May 21-23, at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.
