Women's Swimming and Diving Drops OAC Dual to Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams returned to Ohio Athletic Conference action and was defeated by Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center Natatorium. 

BW (5-5, 1-2 OAC) fell to the Ohio Northern by a final score of 133-101.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman stroker Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) as she won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:15.00 and the 1000-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 10:54.64.

Also earning victories were junior All-OAC stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) and junior Academic All-OAC diver/stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence) as each one victory and a top three finish.   Nockengost won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:18.12 and was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley in a season-best time of 2:20.88.  Clymer won the 1-meter diving event with a total score of 175.65 points and took third in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:41.78.

In addition, junior All-OAC freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) had a pair of runner-up finishes as she took second in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle in times of 2:01.57 and 5:25.49. Junior All-OAC freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) was second in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:33.11 and third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:44.21.  Sophomore All-OAC diver Lauren Franz (Canton/GlenOak) was second in the 3-meter event with a score of 133.25 and was third in the 1-meter event with 152.50 total points. Freshman stroker Madeleine Pierce (Perry) was second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.89 seconds and was third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 58.47. Sophomore All-OAC stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill. / Lyons Township) took third in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:25.56).   Freshman stroker Kayla McClintock (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) finished third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:09.90.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley squad of Pierce, Clymer, Nockengost and senior freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darrien, Ill./Hinsdale South) finished second in a time of 1:56.06.  The 200-yard freestyle unit of sophomore stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky), junior freestyler Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.), Ratino and Thorson took second in a time of 1:47.57. 

BW returns home to the friendly confines of the BW Natatorium on Saturday, January 19 when it hosts an OAC dual match against crosstown rival John Carroll University on the Celebration of BW Swimming and Diving at 1 p.m.
