Women's Swimming Places Third at Diamond City Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming teams finished third at the Diamond City Invitational hosted by King's College at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center.

BW finished third of nine teams with 542 points.  The University of Scranton (Pa.) was the champion with 658 points

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) as she won the 200-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and the 1650-yard freestyle in season-best times of 1:58.40, 5:20.12 and 18:39.74. 

In addition, junior All-OAC stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) won the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 2:16.81, was third in the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 1:01.67 and fifth in the 200-yard individual medley in a season-best time of 2:22.46. Freshman stroker Madeleine Pierce (Perry) took third in the 50-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 25.45 seconds, fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in a career-best time of 1:01.88 and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 56.13. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) took sixth in the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 2:29.03 and the 400-yard individual medley in a season-best time of 5:03.64. Junior stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence) placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:11.00 and seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke in a season-best time of 2:39.86. Junior All-OAC freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) took seventh in the 1650-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 19:24.99

In relay action, the 200-yard freestyle team of Pierce, junior freestyler Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.), sophomore stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky) and senior freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darrien, Ill./Hinsdale South) finished fourth in a season-best time of 1:45.57.  The 200-yard medley relay unit of Pierce, Clymer, Nockengost and Onchuck took third in a season-best time of 1:53.90.  The 400-yard freestyle squad of freshman stroker Kayla McClintock (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), Krupp, junior stroker Alyssa Mahle (Aurora) and sophomore stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky) took fourth in a season-best time of 4:06.53. The 400-yard medley relay quad of Pierce, Clymer, Nockengost and Thorson finished third in a season-best time of 4:12.04.  The 800-yard freestyle team of Thorson, Jacob, McClintock and Nockengost was the runner-up in a season-best time of 8:18.39.

BW is back in action on Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1 when the divers travel to Wooster to compete in the Wooster Invitational in the Timken Natatorium inside the Armington Physical Education Center at 6 p.m.  The Yellow Jacket swimmers will travel to Bethany, West Virginia on Saturday, December 1 for a non-conference dual meet against Bethany College in the John J. Knight Natatorium at 1 p.m.
