Yellow Jacket Women's Soccer Wins Thriller at PSU-Behrend

ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA -- Junior forward Brigitte Petrash (Parma/ Normandy) scored the match-winning goal at the 88:32 mark as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team opened its 2011 season today (Sunday, September 4, 2001) with a 3-2 victory against host Penn State Behrend University. The victory gave the Yellow Jackets a sweep of the Lions today as the B-W men defeated PSBU, 2-1 in double overtime earlier this morning.

The Yellow Jacket women, 1-0 overall, received first half goals from sophomore midfielders Hanna Cavalier (Chippewa Lake/ Lodi Cloverleaf) and Kayla Losco (Aliquippa, Pa./ Hopewell) to build a 2-0 halftime advantage. Freshman goalie Gabrielle Bodo (Alliance/ St. Thomas Aquinas) faced seven shots, allowed a pair of goals and made one save.

B-W scored twice in the first half as Cavalier gave the Jackets a 1-0 advantage on an unassisted tally at the 19:11 mark and Losco made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at the 31:52 mark. The Lions clawed back into the game at the 76:48 mark when Shelby Lloyd scored via an assist from Julia Schroeck. PSBU then tied the game at the 86:46 mark when Lloyd scored again with an assist from Valerie Wagner.

Undaunted, B-W and Petrash came right back to score the game-winner via an assist from Cavalier.

The Yellow Jackets won the battle of shots, 11-7, but Penn State Behrend dominated in corners, 13-1.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 7 when they travel to Oberlin, Ohio to play Oberlin College at 7:00 p.m. The first home game is on Tuesday, Sept. 13 when B-W hosts traditional rival Hiram College on the Tressel Field turf at The George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
