Fox Scores Game-Winner to Beat Grove City (Pa.)

GROVE CITY, PENNSYLVANIA– Senior forward Noelle Fox (Canfield) scored her first goal of the season and it was the match-winner as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team beat host Grove City (Pa.) College, 2-1 in double overtime, today (Saturday, September 17, 2011) in Grove City, Pennsylvania. The win was B-W's second straight.

With its win, B-W is now 4-2 overall and next plays on Tuesday, Sept. 20 when it hosts Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in a non-league match on Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.  With its loss, GCC is 2-4 overall.

The Wolverines opened the scoring at the 31:43 mark when Grace Rieman scored via a pass and assist from Sarah Flenniken. Grove City went into the lockerroom with a 1-0 advantage.

The Yellow Jackets tied the contest at 1-1 at the 48:39 mark of the second half when sophomore forward Heather Keller (Parma) tallied her third goal of the season unassisted. The game remained that way heading to overtime.  

In the second extra session, Fox scored the game-winner on her first goal of the season at the 1:02.13 mark following a corner kick by Rachel Gokey (Seville/ Lodi Cloverleaf).

In goal, freshman Claire LoPresti (Bethel Park, Pa./ Bethel Park) faced 16 Grove City shots, allowed one goal and made five saves as she won her first collegiate contest. The Yellow Jackets won the battle of shots, 16-15, but GCC won the battle of corner kicks, 5-4.

Following Tuesday's game versus CWRU, B-W will travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania on Saturday,  September 24 when it plays Westminster College in the nightcap of a men's and women's doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. The men's match kicks off at 1:00 p.m. 

On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
