Women's Soccer Falls on Road To JCU

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team was defeated by Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University, 2-0, today (Wednesday, October 26, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Don Shula Stadium.  

With the loss, B-W drops to 10-8 overall and 3-5 in the OAC.  With the victory, John Carroll improves to 12-6 overall, 6-2 in the OAC and secures a home match in the quarterfinals of next week's OAC Tournament.  

The Blue Streaks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Kaylin Akerly scored the goal off the assist from Kayla Acklin at the 15:17 mark of the first quarter.  John Carroll would close out the scoring (2-0) when Akerly scored her second goal of the game off the pass from Kristen Profeta with 12:50 remaining in the opening period.

In net for John Carroll,  Haley McDonald tallied seven saves and improved to 5-1. For B-W, freshman goalie Gabrielle Bodo (Alliance/St. Thomas Aquinas) made 10 saves and now has a record of  6-7 on the season.

John Carroll outshot B-W, 20-14, and won the corner battle, 4-3.

The Yellow Jackets will close out the regular season this Saturday, October 29 when they travel to New Concord to take on the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum University in the first game of a men's and women's OAC soccer doubleheader on the Muskie Field at 1:00 p.m. The OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, November 1.
