Women’s Soccer Team Loses at Transylvania (Ky.)

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY – The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team dropped its second straight match when it lost 2-0 to Transylvania University today (Sunday, September 11, 2011) in the second match of the Transylvania University Tournament. The Yellow Jackets, 2-2 overall, lost to Centre (Ky.) College yesterday in Lexington.

The Yellow Jackets opened the season with victories against Penn State Behrend (Pa.) University, 3-2, and Oberlin College, 6-1, prior to losing to Centre and Transylvania. The B-W defense has been a solid in allowing just six goals in four matches.

Despite the loss today, freshman Gabrielle Bodo (Alliance/St. Thomas Aquinas) played well as she faced 25 Pioneer shots, allowed both goals and made 11 saves. For the season, Bodo has played 315 minutes, allowed five goals for a 1.43 goals-against-average with 17 saves.

Transylvania jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 8:40 mark of the first half when Awbrey Wahle scored off a corner kick when she blasted a shot in the upper left corner of the net from 17 yards out. Abby Felthaus was credited with the assist.  The game remained close all the way until the 87:26 mark when the Pioneers gained a 2-0 advantage when Carley Williams scored off a cross from three yards out.  Alyssa Kruse was credited with the assist.

The Pioneers outshot the Yellow Jackets, 25-6, and won the battle of corner kicks, 7-0.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 13 when B-W hosts traditional rival Hiram College on the Tressel Field turf at The George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

After four matches, sophomore forward Kayla Losco (Aliquippa, Pa./ Hopewell) leads the team in scoring with six points on three goals and sophomore forward Heather Keller (Parma) is second with five points on one goal and a team-leading three assists.  Losco has taken both the most total shots with seven and the most shots on goal with five.

On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
