Women’s Soccer Team Shuts Out Marietta College

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team shut out Marietta College, 2-0, today (Saturday, October 1, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on the Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. The shutout was B-W's third in its last four contests and fourth in its last seven.

With the victory, the Yellow Jackets improved to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the OAC and won for the third time in their last four matches.  The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-9-1 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring when sophomore midfielder Kayla Losco (Aliquppa, Pa./ Hopwell) scored off assist from sophomore midfielder Heather Keller (Parma) at the 22:23 mark. The goal was Losco's team-high-tying fourth this season.

Near the end of the first half, sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Helser (Fort Wayne, Ind./ Canterbury) scored the first goal of her career off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Rachel Gokey (Seville/ Cloverleaf) at the 37:27 mark to extend the B-W lead to 2-0 going into halftime. The assist was Gokey's third this season to rank second on the team.

In the second half, both teams had chances to score but neither was able to capitalize on any opportunities.

In net, freshman Gabrielle Bodo (Alliance/ St. Thomas Aquinas) faced six shots, including four on goal, and had for saves as she recorded her fourth win of the season (4-4).

B-W outshot Marietta 13-6 and lost the corner battle 5-4.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, October 5 when they play host to the Lions of Penn State-Behrend in a non-conference match on the Tressel Field pitch at 7:00 p.m.   B-W will return to OAC action on Saturday, October 8 when it will host Otterbein University in the first game of a men's and women's OAC soccer doubleheader at 4:30 p.m.   The men's game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
