Yellow Jacket Women's Soccer Shuts Out Mount Union

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team posted its sixth shutout of the season tonight (Tuesday, October 18, 2011) by defeating  the University of Mount Union, 2-0, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on the Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium.

With the win, B-W advances to 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the OAC and kept its OAC postseason tournament aspirations alive.  With the loss, Mount Union drops to 7-7-2 overall and in 2-4 the OAC

The Yellow Jackets were first to get on the scoreboard just 3:03 into play when sophomore defender Samantha Riveron (Maineville/ Kings) took a corner kick and senior midfielder Lindsey Cooper (Westerville/ New Albany) headed the ball into the back of the net  for a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Cooper's fifth of the season and the first career assist for Riveron.

At 15:42, B-W lengthened its lead to 2-0 when senior forward Noelle Fox (Canfield) scored her third goal of the season off the first career assist from senior defender Leanne Kasburg (Cuyahoga Falls). Kasburg, who carries a 3.53 grade point average in pre-phyical therapy, is a candidate for Academic All-OAC and CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District IV honors

In net, freshman goalie Gabrielle Bodo (Alliance/ St. Thomas Aquinas) faced three Purple Raider shots, had one save and recorder her third shutout of the season. She has a 5-6 record this season.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Purple Raiders, 16-3, and outcornered Mt. Union, 3-1.

This Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams host OAC-foe Wilmington College in an OAC doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader.  The women will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m. In the first three years, B-W has compiled a perfect 6-0 record.

Next week is the final week of the OAC regular season and the Yellow Jackets play matches at OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University and at Muskingum College. The OAC Tournament for men begins on Monday, October 31.
