No. 6 Men’s Wrestling Tames No. 18 Polar Bears

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 6 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team defeated No. 18 nationally ranked Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match by a final score of 39-8 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center

BW (2-0, 2-0 OAC) has now won 27 straight OAC matches, including winning 11 straight against Ohio Northern (4-2, 1-1 OAC). 

Match Results:

  • 125 pounds:    Senior Johnny Novak (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) won an 11-8 decision over sophomore All-OAC Collin Mellot
  • 133 pounds:    Senior All-American and No. 2 nationally ranked Jaden Hinton (Glassboro, N.J.) won a 19-3 technical fall over junior Dylan Le
  • 141 pounds:    Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Robby Palmieri (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) lost a 7-3 decision to senior All-American and No. 2 nationally ranked Jacob Reed
  • 149-pounds:    Senior All-American Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley), who is ranked second nationally at 157-pounds, won by pinfall in 2:07 over sophomore Colton Spurgeon
  • 157-pounds:    Junior All-OAC Tommy West (Avon Lake/St. Edward) won a 21-4 technical fall over junior Jayden Jones
  • 165-pounds:    Freshman and No. 13 nationally ranked Andrew Supers (Medina) won by pinfall in 5:38 over junior Academic All-OAC Teagan Hendricks
  • 174-pounds:    Senior Joey Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) won a 20-4 technical fall over junior Academic All-OAC Adam Myers
  • 184-pounds:    Junior Carter Lloyd (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won a 6-3 decision over junior All-OAC and No. 13 nationally ranked Gavin Layman
  • 197-pounds:    Senior Mitch Sanders (Newbury) lost a 20-4 technical fall to freshman Cole Williams
  • 285-pounds:    Senior All-American and No. 4 nationally ranked Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) won by pinfall in 2:02 over senior Jadon Brownlee

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, December 9 when they travel to Naperville, Illinois to compete in the 59th North Central (Ill.) College Invitational inside Residence Hall at 10 a.m.
