No. 3 Men’s Wrestling Runner-Up at Season Opening Ithaca (N.Y.) Invitational, Four Individuals Win Titles

ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team finished second at the season opening Ithaca College Invitational inside the Athletics and Events Center. 

BW was second of 12 teams with 150.5 points while having four individual champions.  Castleton (V.T.) University was the winner with 187 points 

Senior All-American and No. 2 nationally ranked 133-pounder Jaden Hinton (Glassboro, N.J.) - Champion

  • Won an 18-3 technical fall over Joseph Aldrich American International (Mass.)
  • Won a 6-4 decision over Kaya Bogle of Castleton
  • Won by pinfall in 6:41 over Jaden Colwell of Springfield (Mass.)
  • Won an 8-5 extra time decision over Isaias Torres of Ithaca

Senior All-American 157-pounder Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley), who is ranked No. 1 nationally at 149 pounds - Champion

  • Won a 21-6 technical fall over Kevin Sevigny of Springfield (Mass.)
  • Won a 23-4 technical fall over Nicholas Palso of Castleton
  • Won a 20-3 technical fall over Joseph Averill of Ithaca
  • Won an 11-1 major decision over Jashon Holmes of Castleton
  • Won a 4-1 decision over Nate Camiscioli of Castleton

Senior Academic All-OAC 165-pounder Hunter Kupniewski (North Royalton) – Champion

  • Won a 16-0 technical fall over Kayo Torres of Springfield (Mass.)
  • Won a 16-1 technical fall over Ethan Kring of Greensboro (N.C.)
  • Won a 17-2 technical fall over Pedro Cruz of Ithaca
  • Won a 6-3 decision over West of BW
  • Won a 6-1 sudden victory decision over Nicholas Roeger of Castleton

Senior All-American 285-pounder Doug Byrne (Wickliffe), who is No. 4 nationally ranked at 197 pounds - Champion

  • Won an 11-2 major decision over Evan Day of Castleton
  • Won by pinfall in 16 seconds over Shane Daly of Norwich (V.T.)
  • Won a 13-0 major decision over Shea Garand of Castleton
  • Won by pinfall in 1:46 over Haven Tatarek of Castleton
  • Won by pinfall in 4:31 over Abbas Abdulrahman of Castleton

Senior 125-pounder Johnny Novak (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) – 3rd Place

  • Won by pinfall in 27 seconds over Michael Sandacz of Pennsylvania College of Technology
  • Won a 17-1 technical fall over Brett Rosenberg of Oswego State (N.Y.)
  • Won a 13-2 major decision over Hunter Heck of Muskingum
  • Lost a 13-2 major decision to Gavin Bradley of Castleton
  • Won by pinfall on 2:30 over Ariel Escalante of Springfield (Mass.)
