Softball Falls to Buena Vista (Iowa) on Final Day of Tucson Invitational Games

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball closed out the Tucson Invitational Games by dropping a non-conference doubleheader to Buena Vista (Iowa) University by scores of 3-2 and 7-2 at the Lincoln Park.

In game one, BW (1-9) scored two runs on six hits as it plated both of its runs in the third inning.  Buena Vista scored three runs on four hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the first inning and two runs in the fifth.

At the Plate

  • Sophomore third baseman Julia Gersey (Solon) was 2-for-3
  • Senior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Macedonia/Akron Archbishop Hoban) sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), sophomore All-OAC shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and freshman right fielder Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) each provided a base hit
  • Bricker had a double and run batted-in
  • Mau had a double, two runs scored and a run-batted in
  • Frederickson had a double and a run scored

In the Circle

  • Junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) took the loss as she allowed three runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts and five walks in six innings

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on nine hits as they plated two runs in the sixth and seventh innings.  The Beavers scored seven runs on 11 hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the first, one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings and two in the seventh

At the Plate

  • Gersey, Matousek and junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Alicia Saxton (Boardman) each were 2-for-4
  • Matousek had a double
  • Bricker, senior Academic All-OAC designated player Amanda Crisler (Lorain/Amherst), freshman leftfielder Kenzie Morsillo (Middleburg Heights/Broadview Heights) all had a base knock
  • Morsillo had an RBI

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Hannah Welling (Ravenna) took the loss as she allowed seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits with three strikeouts and two walks in seven innings.

BW is back in action on Saturday, March 19 when it opens the home portion of its schedule with a non-conference doubleheader against Calvin (Mich.) University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.  First pitch in game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two slated to begin at 3 p.m.
