Softball Splits OAC Twinbill with Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference twinbill against Muskingum University on the Donna J. Newberry Softball Field.

Muskingum (15-5, 1-1 OAC) won the opener by a final score of 3-1.  BW (5-14, 2-2 OAC) took the second game by a final score of 6-3.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on five hits as they plated their lone run in the sixth inning.  The Fighting Muskies scored three runs on five hits as they pushed all three runs across the plate in the third inning. 

At the Plate

  • Sophomore third baseman Julia Gersey (Solon) was 2-for-3 with a run batted-in (RBI)
  • Sophomore All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) was 1-for-3 with a double
  • Sophomore All-OAC shortstop Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was 1-for-3 with a run scored

In the Circle

  • Junior All-OAC right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) suffered the loss as she allowed three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and three walks

In game two BW scored six runs on 12 hits as it plated one run in the first inning, two in the second, two in the fourth and one in the seventh.   Muskingum scored three runs on four hits as it pushed two runs across the plate in the sixth inning and one in the seventh.

At the Plate

  • Mau was 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and two RBIs
  • Senior All-OAC designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI
  • Gersey was 2-for-4
  • Bricker, senior Academic All-OAC right fielder Amanda Crisler (Lorain/Amherst), senior Academic All-OAC second baseman Alicia Saxton (Boardman), sophomore center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) and freshman left fielder Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) all had a base knock
  • Crisler had two runs scored, an RBI and a walk
  • Frederickson had an RBI
  • Bricker and Coggins each scored a run

In the Circle

  • Junior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) picked up her first win of the season as she allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks
  • Camarati earned her sixth career save as she allowed one run on one hit with one strikeout in 1.1 innings pitched

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 6 when it travels to Grove City, Pennsylvania for a non-conference twinbill against Grove City College on the College Softball Field at 3:30 p.m.  BW returns home to the friendly confines of the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 9 for an OAC doubleheader against Capital University at 1 p.m.
