Softball Sweeps Olivet (Mich.) in Non-Conference Action

OLIVET, Mich. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept its third non-conference doubleheader of the season as it defeated Olivet (Mich.) College at the Cutler Athletic Complex. 

BW (12-17-1), who went 3-2 against teams from Michigan this season, won the first game by a final score of 3-1 as it rallied to score all three runs in the top of the sixth inning.  The Yellow Jackets won the second game by a final score of 5-4 to complete their first sweep since March 24 and their third of the season.

In game one, BW scored three run on seven hits as it plated all three runs in the top of the sixth inning.  Olivet (10-22) tallied one run on five hits as it tallied its lone run in the third inning.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore center fielder Sami Minor (North Royalton) as she went 2-for-3 with a run batted-in.  Junior pitcher Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Four other Yellow Jackets had a base knock.

In the circle, Mott picked up her seventh win of the season as she allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. 

In game two, BW scored five runs on 10 hits as it plated two runs in the third and three runs in the fifth.  The Comets tallied four runs on eight hits as it scored all four of their runs in the fifth. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior Academic All-OAC left fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) and sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference shortstop Erica English as each went 2-for-3 with a double.  Senior Academic All-OAC left fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) went 2-for-3 with a double. Sophomore All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.   Mott was 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs.   Three other BW players picked up a base hit highlighted by freshman first baseman Hannah Albrecht (Northridge, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) with a double and RBI. 

In the circle, freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) earned the victory as she pitched 4.2 innings and allowed four runs on six hits with a career-high seven strikeouts and four walks.  Senior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) pitched 1.1 innings and allowed zero runs on two hits with one strikeout and no walks.  Mott closed the door as she pitched a scoreless and hitless seventh inning for her first career save with one hit and no strikeouts or walks.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, April 18 when they travel to Ada for an OAC doubleheader against Ohio Northern University on the ONU Softball Field at 3 p.m.  BW closes out the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, April 22 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Capital University on Seniors' and Parents' Day at 1 p.m.
