UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to cross-town rival John Carroll University on Bracken Field.
John Carroll (9-9, 2-4 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 4-1. BW (8-10, 2-4 OAC) took the second game by a score of 7-6.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on five hits as they plated their lone run in the third inning. The Blue Streaks tallied four runs on eight hits as it scored two runs in the second and one each in the third and fifth innings.
BW was led by senior Academic All-OAC left fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) as she went 2-for-3. Junior pitcher Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central), junior right fielder Sierra Bennett (Tallmadge) and sophomore All-OAC center fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) all had a base knock while Boledovic added a stolen base.
In the circle, Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) fell to 5-4 on the season as she allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits with a career-high eight strikeouts and four walks in six innings pitched.
In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on six hits as it plated three runs in the fourth and fifth and added the insurance run in the sixth. John Carroll scored six runs on seven hits as it scored one run in the first three innings and added three runs in the sixth.
BW was led by Boledovic and freshman second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) as each went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Boledovic also added a run batted-in (RBI). Sophomore third baseman Sami Minor (North Royalton) and sophomore All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) each had a base knock.
In the circle, freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) picked up her first win of the season as she allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits with a career-high five strikeouts and five walks.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday, April 6 when they travel to nearby Oberlin for a rescheduled doubleheader with Oberlin College on Culhane Field at 3:30 p.m. The next home doubleheader is on Friday, April 7 when the team hosts Hiram College at 3:30 p.m.
