Softball Drops a Pair to NCAA Division II Hawaii Pacific in Aloha State Finale

KANEOHE, Hawaii – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team closed out its trip to the Aloha State by dropping a pair of games to NCAA Division II Hawaii Pacific University at Howard Okita Field. 

Hawaii Pacific (11-7) won the opening game as it scored the only run of game one in the bottom of the fifth inning and won the second game by a final score of 9-2.

In game one, BW (4-6) was held scoreless on four hits.   The Yellow Jackets a base hit from sophomore short stop Erica English (North Olmsted), sophomore left fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), sophomore designated player Sami Minor (North Royalton) and freshman right fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central).  Boledovic tallied the lone extra base of the game as she had a double.

In the circle, senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) suffered the loss as she pitched seven innings and allowed one run (unearned) on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

In game two, BW scored two runs on five runs as it plated one run each in the fourth and six innings.  The Sharks scored nine runs on six hits as it scored one run in the first, three in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by Boledovic as she went 2-for-3.  Sophomore second basemen Krista Jennings (Luckey/Eastwood), sophomore third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) and senior Academic All-OAC left fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) tallied a base knock.  The hit for Jennings, who played in just her seventh career game, was the first of her career.

In the circle, junior Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) took the loss as she pitched three innings and allowed six runs (two earned) on five hits with two walks.  Freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) pitched the final three innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on one hit with two strikeouts and five walks.

BW returns to action on Thursday, March 16 when it travels to nearby to Oberlin for a non-conference doubleheader against Oberlin College on Culhane Field at 3:30 p.m.
