Softball Drops a Pair of Games in Arizona Finale

TUCSON, Arizona – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games on its final day at the annual Tucson Invitational Games in Lincoln Park. 

BW (2-2) opened the day as its comeback against NAIA Judson (Ill.) University fell short by a score of 6-0.   The Yellow Jackets closed out its stay in Arizona with a 10-0 loss in five innings to NAIA William Penn (Iowa) College.

Against Judson, BW trailed 6-0 after the first three innings before it scored two runs in the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth.   The Yellow Jackets had the tying runs on base in the seventh inning but was unable to push a run across with the bases loaded.  BW scored its four runs on a game-high 10 hits.

The offense was led by freshmen right fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) as she recorded a career-high three hits.  Leach went 3-for-4 with a run scored.  Sophomore catcher Sami Minor (North Royalton) had a career-best tying two hits as she went 2-for-4 with a career-high two runs batted-in (RBIs).  Five other Yellow Jackets had a base knock.

In the circle, freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) took the loss in her first collegiate start as she pitched six innings allowed six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

In the game with William Penn, BW was held scoreless but got its two hits from Minor in the fourth inning and Leach in the fifth inning.

In the circle, junior Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) suffered the loss as she allowed five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in three innings. Senior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) pitched the final inning and allowed five runs on four hits.

The Yellow Jackets continue their spring break trip as they head to Hawaii for six games over the next week.  BW opens its trip to the Aloha State on Tuesday, March 7 as it takes on NCAA Division II Brigham Young University-Hawaii in a doubleheader at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
