BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule as it split a doubleheader wit the University of Mount Union on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field.

BW (7-7, 1-1 OAC) won game one by a final score of 7-4 and Mount Union (7-9 , 1-1 OAC) captured the second game by a score of 6-0

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on eight hits as it plated one run in the first and three in the second and third. The Purple Raiders tallied four runs on five hits as it scored one in the fourth and three in the seventh.

The BW offense was led by sophomore All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) as she went 2-for-3 with three runs batted-in (RBIs). Sophomore All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) was 2-for-2 with a RBI and run scored. Freshman center fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Sophomore third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

In the circle, junior Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) picked up her fifth win of the season as she allowed four runs on five hits with six strikeouts and five walks in 6.1 innings. Freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) recorded her first collegiate save as she pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and did not allow a run or hit.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets were held scoreless on seven hits. Mount Union scored six runs on nine hits as it scored four runs in the fourth and two in the seventh.

The BW offense was led by English and sophomore designated player Sami Minor (North Royalton) as each went 2-for-4. Three other Yellow Jackets recorded a base knock.

In the circle, senior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) suffered the loss as she allowed four runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings pitched with one strikeout. Turner pitched the final 3.1 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, March 28 when it travels to Hiram for a non-conference doubleheader against Hiram College on Myrtis E. Herndon Field at 3:30 p.m.
