NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team closed out the 2017 season as it split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Muskingum University on Donna Newberry Field.
BW (16-21-1, 5-12-1 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 1-0. Muskingum (15-23, 7-11 OAC) rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the second game by a final score of 5-4.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on seven hits as it plated their lone run in the second inning. The Fighting Muskies were held scoreless with just two hits.
BW was led by sophomore All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) as she went 2-for-3. Five other Yellow Jacket hitters recorded a base hit highlighted by junior designated player Tori Young (Tallmadge) as she knocked in the game's only run with her run batted-in (RBI) single.
In the circle, junior Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) picked up her 10th win of the season and her third complete game shutout as she did not allow a run on just two hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored four runs on nine hits as it plated one run in first, third, fifth and seventh. Muskingum tallied five runs on eight hits as it scored one run in the third and scored four runs in the seventh.
BW was led by sophomore All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) as she went 3-for-4 with her second career triple and four runs scored. Mott was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Four other Yellow Jackets recorded a base knock highlighted by sophomore center fielder Sami Minor (North Royalton) and freshman second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) with a RBI. Senior Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) tallied her last career hit in her final at bat in the sixth inning.
In the circle, freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) started the game and pitched 2.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout and four walks. Mott suffered the loss as she pitched the final 3.2 innings and allowed four runs on six hits with three walks.
