Softball Falls to Capital on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team closed out the home portion of its schedule as it dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference and Seniors' and Parents' Day doubleheader against Capital University on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field.

Capital (22-14, 10-6 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 3-0 and took the second game by a 6-2 count.

In game one, BW (15-20-1, 4-11-1 OAC) was held scoreless on five hits.  The Yellow Jackets brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning but they were unable to push the runs across.  The Crusaders scored three runs on eight hits as they tallied all three runs in the second innings.

BW was led by sophomore All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and sophomore center fielder Sami Minor (North Royalton) as each went 2-for-3.  Minor tallied the only extra base knock with a double. Freshman second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) was 1-for-3 and a stolen base. 

In the circle, junior Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) suffered the loss as she allowed three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on seven hits as it plated both its runs in the third inning.  Capital tallied six runs on 10 hits as it scored two runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings.

BW was led by Kozich as she went 2-for-4.  Five other Yellow Jackets recorded a base knock.

In the circle, senior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) took the loss as she allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with one strikeout and two walks in 3.2 innings.   Freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) allowed two runs on two hits with one strikeout and one walk in an inning pitched.  Mott pitched the final 2.1 innings and did not allow a run on two hits with a walk.

BW closes out the 2017 season on Saturday, April 29 when it travels to New Concord for an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum University on Donna J. Newberry Field at 1 p.m.
