Nelsen’s Homer Lifts BW Softball to OAC Split with Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference left fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) belted her second career homerun to lift the Baldwin Wallace University softball to an OAC doubleheader split with Ohio Northern University on the ONU Softball Field. 

BW (13-18-1, 4-9-1 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 2-0 as Nelsen smacked a two-run and two-out homerun to left center field in the top half of the seventh inning. Ohio Northern (23-9, 9-5 OAC) picked up the win in the second game in six innings by a final score of 8-0.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on five hits.  The Polar Bears were held scoreless on four hits

BW was led by freshman first baseman Hannah Albrecht (Northridge, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Three other Yellow Jackets had a base knock highlighted by Nelsen's homerun and two runs batted-in (RBIs). 

In the circle, junior Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) threw her first collegiate shut out and picked up her eight win of the season as she did not allow a run on four hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts and just two walks. 

In game two, the Yellow Jackets were held scoreless on three hits.  Ohio Northern tallied eight runs on nine hits as it scored two in the first inning, one run in both the fourth and fifth innings and four in the sixth. 

BW got a base hit each from sophomore All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), sophomore All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) and freshman pitcher Nikki Turner (Hudson).

In the circle, Mott took the loss as she pitched four innings and allowed three runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.   Turner pitched the final 1.1 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, April 21 when they travel to Hiram for a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader against Hiram College on Myrtis E. Herndon Field at 3:30 p.m.  BW closes out the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, April 22 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Capital University on Seniors' and Parents' Day at 1 p.m.
