Softball Drops Doubleheader to NCAA Division II BYU-Hawaii

LAIE, Hawaii – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team opened the Hawaiian swing of its spring break trip by falling to Brigham Young University-Hawaii in a doubleheader at the BYU-Hawaii Softball Field. 

BYU-Hawaii (8-14) won the first game by a final score of 4-0 and claimed the second game by a final score of 6-2.

In game one, BW (2-4) was held scoreless on four hits.  The Seasiders scored four runs on four hits as they plated two runs in the first, one run in the second and one in the sixth.

The Yellow Jacket offense got a base knock each from senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference left fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto), sophomore All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted), sophomore catcher Sami Minor (North Royalton) and freshman second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon). 

In the circle, freshman Nikki Turner (Hudson) suffered the loss as she allowed four runs on four hits with one strikeout and five walks in 5.1 innings pitched.  Junior Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and did not allow and run or hit with one strikeout and one walk.

In the second game, BW scored two runs on eight hits as it plated two runs in the fifth inning.  BYU-Hawaii scored six runs on eight hits as it scored two runs in the first and flour in the third.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by sophomore All-OAC designated player Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) as she had a career-high tying three hits.  Boledovic went 3-for-4 with a double and one run batted-in (RBI).  Nelsen rounded out the multiple hit players as she went 2-for-3.  Three other BW players had a base hit. 

In the circle, senior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) took the loss as she allowed six runs (three earned) on three hits with two walks in 2.2 innings.  Mott pitched the final 3.1 innings of relief and did not allow an earned for the second game on five hits.  

The Yellow Jackets continue their Aloha State trip Thursday, March 9 as it playes a doubleheader against NCAA Division II Chaminade University at the Patsy T.
