BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University junior pitcher Samantha Dostall (Oberlin/Firelands) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for the first time in her career.
Dostall, who is currently on BW's annual spring break trip, earned her first career honor for throwing a no-hitter in her first game of the 2016 season in a 2-1 victory against Beloit (Wis.) College on Sunday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. She allowed one run on no hits with six strikeouts, including one to end the game, in seven innings of action.
Dostall has appeared in two other games for the Yellow Jackets this week in Florida. She suffered her first loss of the season in a 5-0 defeat to Thomas More (Ky.) College on Monday afternoon when she allowed five runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts in six and one-third innings. Dostall also made a relief appearance on Tuesday afternoon in a 2-1 loss to Rhodes (Tenn.) College where she allowed no runs on four hits with two strikeouts in five innings.
This season, Dostall has made three appearances and has a record of 1-1 with a 1.91 earned run average (ERA) in 18.1 innings of action. She has allowed six runs (five earned) on 15 hits with 10 strikeouts and just five walks.
Dostall has a career record of 14-15 with a 3.92 ERA in 177 innings of action. She has allowed 124 runs (99 earned) on 210 hits with 111 strikeouts. Dostall has thrown a no-hitter for two times, including one each of the last two seasons.
BW is back in action on Wednesday, March 9 as it continues play on day four of competition at the Rebel Spring Games with two non-conference games against Coe (Iowa) College and Carroll (Wis.) College. The game against Coe is at 9 a.m. and the Carroll game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start.
