KISSIMMEE, FLA. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a pair of non-conference games on the third day of the annual Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex.
BW (3-3) opened the day with a 3-1 victory against Defiance College and closed the day with a 2-1 loss to Rhodes (Tenn.) College.
Against Defiance, BW scored three runs on nine hits as it plated two runs in the second and one in the third. Defiance scored one run on four hits as it plated its lone run in the third inning.
The BW offense was led by sophomore junior rightfielder Nicolette Kunath (Columbia Station/Columbia) as she went 2-for-2. Sophomore designated player Sierra Bennett (Tallmadge) was 2-for-3 with a run batted-in (RBI) and freshman first baseman Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) was 2-for-4. In addition, three other BW players had a base knock.
In the circle, Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) improved to 2-1 on the season as she allowed one run (unearned) on four hits with seven strikeouts.
Against Rhodes, BW scored one run on seven hits as it plated its lone run in the fifth inning. Rhodes scored two runs on six hits as it scored both runs in the third inning.
The BW offense was led by junior All-OAC second baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) and freshman shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) as each went 2-for-3. Rogers scored the lone run on a wild pitch and throwing error all on the same play. Three other BW hitters had a base knock.
In the circle, junior pitcher Christine Lyzen (Columbia Station/Columbia), who made her first collegiate start, suffered the loss as she pitched two innings and allowed two runs on two hits. Junior pitcher Samantha Dostall (Oberlin/Firelands) came on in relief and pitched five innings and did not allow a run on four hits with two strikeouts.
BW is back in action on Wednesday, March 9 as it continues play on day four of competition at the Rebel Spring Games with two non-conference games against Coe (Iowa) College and Carroll (Wis.) College. The game against Coe is at 9 a.m. and the Carroll game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start.
