CLEVELAND – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped a reschedule non-conference doubleheader against cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University at Mather Park.  The doubleheader was originally scheduled for April 5 but was postponed due to inclement weather.

In game one, BW (10-24) was held scoreless and had just two base hits.  The Spartans scored seven runs on 13 hits as they plated two runs in the first and five in the fifth.

Freshman shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) and freshman center fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) had the two Yellow Jacket base knocks as each went 1-for-3.

In the circle, junior Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto), who made just her second career start, took the loss as she allowed seven runs on 13 hits with one strikeout in six innings.

In game two, BW scored three runs on nine hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the fourth inning and two in the sixth.  Case Western Reserve scored four runs on 10 hits as it scored its one run the second inning and scored the game-winning three runs in the sixth.

The Yellow Jacket offense was sparked by Thompson as she recorded a career-best three hits as she went 3-for-3 with a career-high tying two stolen bases and a walk.   Freshman first baseman Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) was the other BW multiple hitter as she went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference second baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion), junior right fielder Nicolette Kunath (Columbia/Columbia Station), sophomore designated player Nicole Fletterick (Columbia Station/Olmsted Falls) and freshman third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) collected the other base hits.  Rogers had a RBI and run scored while Loveless had a run scored.

In the circle, junior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) suffered the loss as she allowed four runs on 10 hits with one strikeout.

BW closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 30 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum University on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 1 p.m.
