Softball Falls in Rescheduled OAC Doubleheader vs. Marietta

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped a rescheduled Ohio Athletic Conference against Marietta College on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 9 but was postponed until today due to inclement weather.

Marietta (15-15, 5-5 OAC) won the opener by a final score of 13-1 in five innings and took the second game by a final score of 3-2.
 

In game one, BW (9-15, 2-6 OAC) scored its lone run on the run batted-in single and lone base knock from sophomore third baseman Nicole Fletterick (Columbia Station/Olmsted Falls) in the fourth inning. The Pioneers scored 13 runs on 13 hits as they tallied four runs in the first, one in the third and fourth and seven in the fifth.

In the circle, junior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) suffered the loss as she allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits with one strikeout in four innings.  Freshman Sami Minor (North Royalton), who made just her second appearance, pitched a third of an inning and allowed seven runs (six earned) on three hits with her first career strikeout.  Junior Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) pitched the final two thirds of an inning and allowed just one hit.
 

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on six hits hits and plated a run in the first and fourth innings.   Marietta scored three runs on six hits as it tallied one run in the second and won the game with the decisive two runs in the fifth inning.

The BW offense was powered by freshman shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) as she had a career-best three hits and was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore designated player Sierra Bennett (Tallmadge) went 2-for-2 with a double with a RBI.  Junior All-OAC second baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) had the other Yellow Jacket hit.
 

In the circle, Morgan took the loss as she allowed three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

BW is back in action on Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17 when it hits the road for a pair of OAC doubleheaders.   The Yellow Jackets first travel to Wilmington on Saturday to face Wilmington College at 1 p.m.   BW closes out the weekend when it travels to Tiffin for a rescheduled doubleheader against Heidelberg University at 1 p.m.
