Softball Ends Season with Loss to Muskingum

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team ended its season as it lost an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Muskingum University on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field.

Muskingum (20-20, 11-7 OAC) won the opener by a final score of 11-3 in five innings and took the second game by a final score of 7-1.

In game one, BW (10-26, 3-15 OAC) scored three runs on eight hits as it plated a run in the second inning on the second career homerun by freshman third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) and then added a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings.  The Muskies scored 11 runs on 13 hits as they tallied five runs in both the second and fifth innings and one run in the third.

In addition to Loveless, freshman centerfielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) and freshman first baseman Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) each collected two hits. Thompson also drove in one run.

In the circle, junior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) pitched one and two-thirds innings and allowed five runs with one strikeout as she took the loss. Junior Christine Lyzen (Columbia Station/Columbia) pitched the final three and one-third innings and allowed six runs on seven hits with one strikeout.

In game two, BW scored one run on eight hits as it plated their only run in the fourth inning.  Muskingum scored seven runs on 11 hits as it tallied four runs in the third, one run in the fourth and two runs in the seventh inning.

The Yellow Jacket offense was sparked by freshman shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) who collected a career-high four hits. Boledovic also tallied three hits and scored one run.

In the circle, junior Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) pitched seven innings and allowed seven runs (six earned) with four strikeouts as she took the loss.
